Blue Star Kachina Pot

Lawrence Namoki

Hand Coiled and Traditionally Fired Hopi Pot with a Black Slip and Hand Painted Designs. This Hopi pot depicts the arrival of the Blue Ahote, or Blue Star Kachina on December, 21 2012 at 9pm. The arrival of the Blue Star marks the beginning of the Fifth World, our current world according to Hopi beliefs. The turquoise stone set into this pot represents the Blue Star and the moment that it replaced Orion's Belt (the three stars above) as the center of the universe. The dark backside of this pot, with only a few stars shown, represents a more perfect universe with no violence. The Hopis believe we are making progress towards that perfect universe.
