This is a classic Joy Navasie (1919 - 2012) also known as second Frogwoman pot that is hand coiled, traditionally fired, and uses natural mineral and vegetal dyes. This pot also features hand painted feather and geometric designs using a yucca tip brush. Joy learned the basics of traditional Hopi - Tewa pottery from her mother Paqua Naha (1890 - 1955). In the early 1950's Paqua developed the black and red on white style and Joy continued it throughout her career. The style became synonymous with Frog Woman. Joy was most active from about 1935 to 1995.
